STEVE MORSE Ends DEEP PURPLE World Tour With London Clinic
December 23, 2004As DEEP PURPLE ended their 12 month, multi-country world tour, the group's guitarist, Steve Morse, took a moment to stop by the Guitar Institute of London in mid-November, captivating students with his guitar virtuosity.
Fifty aspiring professional guitarists attended the clinic and got the chance to witness Morse's mastery of his instrument in a close-knit setting. According to Pete Whittard, president of the Guitar Institute of London, Morse explained everything from his use of chromaticism to his take on artificial harmonics.
"His command of the instrument, from both a technical standpoint and a musical view was very inspirational," said Whittard. "With the simplest of equipment he produced some great sounds, and great music. The feedback from the students has been excellent! I think they all went home and practiced for hours!" Morse also took time after the clinic to chat with the students and sign photos. Students also appreciated his laid-back style and great sense of humor.
Morse is the founder of the DIXIE DREGS and the STEVE MORSE BAND and is currently lead guitarist for DEEP PURPLE. Steve Morse plays an Ernie Ball Musicman guitar with custom strings 10, 13, 16, 26, 36, 42.
